We often face difficulties in solving maths problems. Sometimes students stuck at a math problem for hours or even days and eventually give up. What if there is something out there which will get the job done for us! Yeah, Photomath, an AI supported math solving app, comes up with smart solutions that let students to just snapshot their math problems by their mobile camera and get the solutions. That sounds cool, right?

Photomath is an American start up. Recently, it raises 23M Dollars to invest in user experience. The app has over 220M downloads and 4.7 ratings out of 5 on Google Play Store. It has some cool features: its solutions range from simple algebraic problems to complex calculus problems. Students who struggle with simple algebraic or arithmetic problems can be get benefited from the app mostly because Photomath has some issues with higher level maths that's explained later in this article. It also can graph an equation which are key to attracting thousands of students world wide. Another cool thing about Photomath is that the app is free but there is an option to upgrade to premium that has some additional features including video tutorials and more detailed explanation.

For a country where most of the school and college students suffer a lot in solving math problems sometimes some of them simply can't afford a private math tutor and others might feel shame to ask for help, an app like Photomath is really outstanding. Students don't need to pay a premium subscription to use the app. And also there is nothing to be ashamed to get the solutions from the app. In this case, Photomath is great combination for me.

Despite of having some cool features, Photomath has some pitfalls. Sometimes it fails to solve proof based math problems and often it stucks on critical limit problems like following one:

Students who struggle with proof based problem may not get such benefited from the app yet. But if you try very basic or simple algebraic proof, it works.

I talked to Andrea Ivana, Head of Math R&D team at Photomath, about these pitfalls and she ensures me that they are continuously trying to improve user experience and other math solving related problems that's great.

It is very natural that there will be some pitfalls to something that doesn't mean that the product or service is bad at all. Meanwhile, Photomath is a growing platform and its developers always trying their best to boost the apps' capability. I found Photomath very useful for some of my calculus problems. I think it will also help you that's why I would recommend students who often stuck at typical math problems and struggle to find the solution to use the app. I hope it will add significant value to their lives as it did in my case.
